based art-photographer

Recently selected as Featured Photographer by photodirectory.com,
Robert Gilman offered some information about his methodology:
"As for philosophy, I prefer to let the
oneiric quality of the images speak for itself.
I've been a professional photographer for over 40 years and have
always specialized in female nudes and glamour. Much of my work is
either darkroom (Jaffeux Processing) or digitally manipulated and
enhanced (Photoshop, PhotoBrush, PictureMan Rubber, etc. etc...)
I shoot 35mm (Nikon and Pentax Screw-Mount), medium-format (Pentax
6X7, Yashicamat 124G) and 4X5 (Graphic View I and II). My preference is
for EXTREME wide-angle lenses; this contradicts the more common
method of shooting glamour from a distance with a long lens.
I get in
REALLY close with VERY wide angles: 45mm on 6X7.
My NORMAL 35mm lens
has been the 20mm since they became readily available in the 60's.
Outdoors, on location, I invariably use fill-in flash or reflectors.
90% of the work is HAND-HELD. In studio, 67 2/3% is on a tripod and lit
with lots of mono-heads (White Lightnings) shot through or bounced
from umbrellas. I prefer a harder light and never use
soft-boxes. Often I'll mix tungsten and strobe for an effect
unobtainable with either source alone.
I shoot slowly and
deliberately: the majority of images are highly useable;
rarely
do I attach motor drives."
